Comedy Club: Round 2

I went back for a second round of Comedy Club on State Street.

The host on Friday night was hilarious. She really got us warmed up. Her name was Noela something. One of the comedians that night said no matter how funny you are the audience still won't remember your name. Too true.

The feature act was Jamie Blanchard from Minneapolis. He had a calm demeanor. His performance was as streaky as Kammron Taylor's shooting. His jokes either hit or didn't. His jokes covered the usual spectrum; Small town drinkers, dating smart girls, bad with directions, road rage, etc. Maybe he wasn't my style.

The headliner was Don Reese. He is one of the funnier stand up comics I've heard. He looks like Uncle Fester on crack, so he says. He kept the audience entertained the entire time with very few pauses. A good chunk of his material was based on his appearance(doesn't pick on the audience). This made his jokes seem like real events that happened in life, which always makes things funnier. He's a tall, bald, heavy set man. He also incorporated a running gag with the word "Fantastic". He is a must see.

Comedy Club on State Street Friday February 8, 2008

I went to the Comedy Club on State Street this past Friday and got to check out two stand up comics. The feature comic was John Burton. He is a self described fat balding mand. His target audience would be mid twenties and up. He's been comic for 5 years. The positive about him were his wide spectrum of topics and his. The negative thing about him was that he didn't capture the adiences attention immediatley. This is a characteristic that is hard to describe.

The headliner was Claude Stewart, the first person to be killed by an alien in "Starship Troopers". Imagine a very engergetic Beaker form the Muppets and that is Claude Stuart. He had a bit of a dirty mouth but didnt' rely heavily on fowl language for his jokes. He started off talking about methamphetamines in Beloit and never looked back. Double standards in race and sex, tourette's, and ADD are a few topics he covered. Warning: If you sit close to front he will use you in his act!!! R-rated. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture with either of the comics. Next time!!!
